55 Temple Chambers was founded in March 1992, the head of chambers at that time being Peter Gibbons, with senior clerk Adrian Attwell. Initially, we occupied premises at 54 Fleet Street, until we moved to our present location at 55 Temple Chambers in April 1995. It was then that Christiaan Moll became head of chambers, a position that he has occupied ever since. Of the founder members, apart from Christiaan, only Frans Khan remains in full time practice in Chambers; Viveca Cameron and Douglas Hamilton remain as door tenants.

Over the years, we have pursued, amongst others, the following objectives:

to train barristers from within – there are currently five members of chambers who did their pupillage here;
to promote a friendly and co-operative atmosphere in chambers, such that members do not feel reticent about approaching colleagues for a second opinion about any legal problem that they might have;
to have positive working relationships with the clerks – a "them and us" attitude is positively discouraged;
to recognise that it is the people in chambers who are our most important assets.

It is those objectives, coupled with our determination to succeed amidst fierce competition, that have laid the basis for our progress since 1992:

our turnover has increased from circa £75,000 in the first year of operation to circa £800,000 for the year ending December 31^st 2004;
we are fully computerised, having initially started by using a manual system;
we were a C. P. S. preferred set from 1995 to 1998 (the C. P. S. no longer operate the Preferred Set system); and
we were awarded the L. S. C. Quality Mark in October 2003.

We are a client focussed set, and are aware of the requirements of both lay and professional clients when we accept instructions. The clerks always endeavour to ensure that the right barrister in chambers is instructed for each case, depending on its particular nature. We hope to continue to provide a high quality service for many years to come.
