Carmel Ashby practises crime and immigration. In crime, she prosecutes and defends in both the magistrates' and Crown courts and has conducted a number of appeals. She also has experience of youth cases in both the Youth and Crown courts, and appeared last year in a complex seven-day fraud trial in the Crown Court.

In immigration, Carmel undertakes work both before the adjudicator and the I. A. T., and also has experience of immigration-related bail applications.

Carmel has been used for a number of years by the B. P. P. Law School to help to train and assess their students in negotiation skills.

Before she came to the Bar, Carmel spent two years as a project planner for the sports car manufacturer Lotus.

She speaks a little French, and in her spare time enjoys theatre, ballet, reading, art, travel, camping and gardening.
